Couch Slut performing You Could Do It Tonight

Does it really make sense to describe a band as sounding ‘dangerous’? It’s just music, it can’t hurt you. However, if there was a band that we’d put money on reaching out through your speakers and curling their blood soaked fingers around your throat and squeezing, and squeezing, and squeezing… then it would be COUCH SLUT. That scenario didn’t feel entirely impossible the first time we heard their upcoming new album, You Could Do It Tonight, so we did what any sensible festival booker would do and invited them to perform it in person so we could witness the terror for real and in the flesh.

If you’re already familiar with Couch Slut, then you’ll know they embody the sound of your nightmares coming true through the medium of sludgy noise-rock. The Brooklyn-based five piece laugh in the face of the descriptor ‘visceral’ – blood and guts just aren’t enough, they’ll chew right down to the bone. They are confronting, urgent and always one step ahead, and you know what? Maybe they are dangerous; there’s only one way to find out.

They tell us: “We are downright engorged to be bringing our aural and physical stench to the nostrils of Europe for the first time at Roadburn 2024.”

It’s not uncommon for bands to present previously unheard material at Roadburn – we have several such performances this year alone –  but this Couch Slut set will also mark their European debut, something of an introduction on this side of the pond. What we’re saying here is, please trust us on this one, Couch Slut are going to make waves in 2024 and we’re thrilled to host their first foray into Europe. If there’s any justice, then they’ll be back here before the year is out. Once You Could Do It Tonight lands and starts to penetrate your psyche too, then you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
