Verwoed performing The Mother

We talk frequently about the thriving Dutch underground – it’s something we’re very proud to be a part of and to champion – and there are few corners of it more fertile than where you’ll find an enclave of black metal bands. We’ve had many of them grace our stages over the years, and 2024 will be no different. We’re thrilled to announce that VERWOED will be making a return to Roadburn this coming April.

They performed as part of the ambitious Maalstroom project back in 2019 – a commissioned collaborative set that encompassed much of what is so essential about Dutch black metal- as well as tightly packed shows in the Cul-de-Sac in 2017 and 2018. However, this year, the spotlight will shine entirely on them and with a little more room to breathe, as they present their new album The Mother, in full. This exclusive performance will put a pin in this moment as a defining part of Verwoed’s creative arc.

We’ve been lucky enough to have a listen to the album in full, so we already know you’re in for quite a treat. If you’re keen on a teaser, then the first single – titled The Child – is available to stream everywhere now. It’s a good taste of what’s in store – a combination of foreboding atmospherics, primordial aggression, and unbeatable musical momentum.

Hail the arrival of The Mother, join us in welcoming Verwoed to Roadburn.
